Radio club completes repeater project in Republic

by Ryan Bowling, XPress Reporter

The Nixa Amateur Radio Club, Inc. recently completed the first phase of its emergency communications radio repeater project in Republic. The repeater will allow all emergency management officials in southwest Missouri to communicate during natural disasters.

Phase one will allow emergency officials in Springfield, Joplin and Branson to communicate among themselves during any type of disaster where such wide range communications are needed. Fundraising and corporate donations helped the club install the $42,000 system in May.

Seven counties in southwest Missouri will be able to utilize the repeater. The Nixa Amateur Radio Club has donated radios for the Nixa Emergency Operations Center and the National Weather Service and is working toward installing them for inclusion in the network.

The Nixa Amateur Radio Club will begin the second phase of the project in January, 2007.
